Natalie Lamb and the travel post: Brussels, Belgium

I've been two Brussels twice now. Once on a short stop on an Interrail adventure and on a long weekend trip to Belgium, arriving on the Eurostar at 11am on the Friday and leaving at 6pm on the Monday. The below are some things I did and some things I would do next time.

Things I did

In Grand Place, there were lots of beautiful buildings. Definitely not one to miss.

I went to see Atomium but next time I would go inside. It is a giant and very cool sculpture a little out of town. You can go inside and see the exhibits, as well as some great views. It is the most popular tourist attraction of the Europe’s Capital.

One of my favourite things to do was just wondering own the city centre eating food! Especially waffles (e.g. Maison Dandoy, the Waffle Factory, Mokafe, Vitalgaufre) and chocolate (e.g. Maison Pierre Marcolini, Wittamer, Côte d’Or).

Manneken Pis. It’s a very small statue but is iconic for Brussels.

I went to Motorworld. It’s not really my cup of tea but was a very large museum with lots of things to see.

Right next to Motorworld was Cinquantenaire & Triumphal Arch. It’s a really nice park to lounge in on a nice day but I’m not sure I’d make the trip to specifically visit just this.

On the Sunday I took a coach trip to see the Formula One at Spa (5:30am to 4:30pm).

Nemo 33. At 33m, this was the deepest indoor swimming pool in the world when it was built in 2014. I was super excited to dive here! It would be great for learners but really it is diving in a swimming pool so it’s fairly small and there’s not too much to look at. It was however a good opportunity to test out my GoPro for the first time!

Next Time

Musée des Égouts Bruxelles (Brussels Sewer Museum). As a water nerd, this had to make the list!

I’d be interested in going on the Comic Strip Route, a collection of over 50 murals which celebrates Brussels' history.

A tour of the Laeken Cemetery Crypt.

Choco-Story Brussels, a small museum featuring chocolate-related exhibits & live demonstrations with a master chocolatier.
