Natalie Lamb and the travel post: Valencia, Spain

I recently had a trip to Valencia (in scorching hot weather- note to self for next time, stay somewhere with air con!). Here’s my top 5 things not to miss while in the city, as well as some later ideas.

1. Oceanografic

Oceanografic is a ginormous aquarium! Like legit take a full day to go and visit this place if you’re going! There was also a free outdoor dolphin show included in your ticket.

2. Submarine Restaurant

Although it is expensive, a wonderful place to go to. It is a restaurant in the aquarium, where you have fine dining surrounded by curved walls of fish. Highly recommended!

3. Chicolateria Valo

A really nice pit stop when you’re in town is for Chicolateria Valor for churros and hot chocolate (which you dip the churros into). They’re super rich and very yummy!

4. The Beach

There’s some beautiful beaches around Valencia. One beach that is highly recommended is La Malvarrisa.

5. Aqua de Valencia

One thing to not miss is the cocktail of Valencia, Aqua de Valencia, made with Valencian orange juice, gin, vodka and cava. One example place to have this is at Cafe de mar Horas, although they do seem to serve it everywhere.

In Future

Next time I would be interested in taking a trip to Hot Springs Montanejos, although it is 90km from Valencia for a little spa break. I would also be interested in some views across the city, such as those from a roof top bar (either Mercantile Athenaeum or VLC Urban Club Terrace) or by going up to the top of the wall (Torres de Serranos). I planned to visit the Central Market too for horchata and fartons (a traditional drink and a snack) but it was shut. I did still manage to have some horchata but it is an acquired taste- not one for me!
